To women who meet high-risk criteria for female cancers, we offer and recommend genetic testing that can detect BRCA genetic mutations (BRCA1, BRCA2) that increase a patients risk of breast, ovarian, and other cancers. Clinical Breast Exams & Mammography

Breast self-exams combined with annual clinical breast exams, mammography, and genetic testing are important tools in the fight against breast cancer.  Our physicians are highly-skilled in performing a thorough clinical breast exam that can detect lumps and abnormalities in breast tissue. We offer these exams for all of our patients during their annual visit. Our clinicians will also talk to you about performing self-breast exams at home to help you notice any changes in your breasts in between your annual visits.  In addition, we, along with the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, also recommend annual mammograms beginning at age 40 (or earlier for high-risk patients).

Gynecological Cancer Detection

The five main types of gynecologic cancer are cervical, ovarian, uterine, vaginal, and vulvar. Of all the gynecologic cancers, only cervical cancer has a screening test, the Pap test (or Pap smear). We provide yearly Paps for all of our patients to screen for cervical cancer so we can find it early when treatment can be most effective.

In addition to performing cervical cancer screenings, all of our physicians have specialized training and take continuing education courses in how to detect the warning signs and reduce our patients’ risk of all forms of gynecologic cancers.
